January 2010: A Busy Month For Cinema


With this year coming to a close, its worth taking note of what cinematic delights are in line for January, before you spend the last of your December pay on late xmas presents and New Year partying.




January 8th





The Road:


Director: John Hillcoat (The Proposition)
Writers: Cormac McCarthy (Novel) Joe Penhall (Script)

Cast: Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises, LOTR), Kodi Smit-Mcphee, Charlize Theron (Burning Plain, Monster)

Plot: A post-apocalyptic tale of a man and his son trying to survive in a world devoid of animals and plant life by any means possible. Desperatly trying to avoid gangs of redneck cannibals. Deliverance meets The Day After Tomorrow

Plot: In a windowless room, under armed guard eight talented candidates have reached the final stage of selection to join the ranks of a mysterious and powerful corporation. They turn over the paper to find a blank sheet with no question, they have 80 minutes to find an answer.

Lovely Bones

Cast: Saoirse Ronan (City Of Ember, Atonement) Mark Wahlberg (The Departed, I Heart Huckabees) Rachel Weisz (The Fountain, Brothers Bloom) Stanley Tucci (Road to Perdition, Lucky number Slevin)

Plot: Centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family - and her killer - from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.
